Write a show for SCA
A request for proposals for the Holiday Show 2011

Who, me? Yes, you. Anyone can write a show for SCA. Team up with others if you like and make it a group effort. This is a great chance to do service in a unique creative way.

Even if you can't write a show just now, we'd love to have you involved. Keep reading...
What do I need do? Write up a one page proposal for the show you want to write. It should have:
  • the title of your proposed show
  • a summary of the plot
  • a list of characters
  • a list of songs (if a musical)
That's all that's necessary in terms of paperwork! Bring 10 copies to the meeting.
When is this meeting? Saturday, June 25th
"Show Vote" Meeting
4 - 5:30pm at the Village Den (Greenwich & W.12th)
Usually 5-10 people are there.

Why the Den? Business-ish meetings like this tend to be a bit more congenial and relaxed when held at a restaurant.

Why now? Didn't we just finish a show already? If we decide a show idea now, the writer (or writing team) has a full 2 months to finish their book/script before casting/rehearsals need to start. And when you add to that 2-3 months of rehearsals, you can see it's a good idea to start many months in advance.
How do you choose a show idea? Each proposal is given 10 minutes to present their idea, along with 5 minutes of Q&A afterward. After each idea has been presented, we use a secret ballot (little slips of paper) to select the winner. If there are numerous proposals we ask everyone to select their top two choices and tally the total number of votes each received.

Everyone present at the meeting can vote. Group conscience decides.
Some things to consider Saturday, Dec. 10th is the tentative show date. Make sure you are available then.

When writing a show proposal, here are a few things we'll be looking for (and asking about, if not clear in your proposal):
  • What is the relevance to recovery? Is there a strong recovery message?
  • How complete is the proposal? Is the writer also directing? If not, how will it be directed?
  • Are there any scheduling conflicts?
  • How many lead characters are there? How many total? (Hint: allow room for many people to participate)
  • How expensive will the show be to produce (extensive costuming or set etc)?
  • SCA NY Intergroup covers all the costs for the show, including rehearsal space, set and costumes. Details discussed at the meeting.
Please RSVP Please RSVP at events@scany.org so we know how many seats to set aside at the Den.

Thanks! Look forward to seeing you there...
